This particular chilli type is famous across the Southern regions of India. It is grown especially in Ramanathapuram in Southern Tamilnadu. Ramnad Mundu is called Gundu Mozhugu in Tamil (meaning, ‘Fat Chilly’).
This chilli is round in shape, and are available in red, yellow, and scarlet colours.
These chillies have a thin skin, which, upon drying, turns reddish-brown. Ramnad Mundu chillies have a special pungent flavor that makes them unique.
The Schoville scale for this chilli is between 5000-30000 SHU.
Benefits of Ramnad Mundu
This variety chillies are dried and used in the Masala used for preparing the famous Sambhar of Tamilnadu.
It is widely used in Chettinad cuisine for its flavor and color.
